“海洋环流与气候变化”讲习班

This workshop will consist of four days (May 12-15, 2010) formal lectures in the morning; these lectures are aimed at a general audience who is interested in learning the oceanic circulation and its connection to climate, but has no previous background in dynamical oceanography or fluid dynamics. Thus, the lectures will be mostly focused on the presentation of the relevant physical ideas and facts, without relying on too much mathematical or complex theory. The afternoon sessions are reserved for discussion. Young scientists are encouraged to present their recent advance in oceanic circulation and climate.

Woods Hole is one of the leading private research institutes in the world. Dr. Huang is a leading expert in large-scale oceanic general circulation, including wind-driven and thermohaline circulation. He has taught introductory and advanced courses of oceanic circulation in the MIT/Woods Hole Joint Program in Oceanography and Ocean engineering for many years.

1. Introduction and energetics of the oceanic circulation

2. Wind-driven circulation

3. Water mass formation, its meaning for climate and carbon dioxide balance

4. Deep circulation

5. Freshwater and haline circulation

6. Thermohaline circulation, multiple solutions, thermohaline catastrophe, and climate

黄瑞新教授简介: 物理海洋学家，现就职于美国伍兹霍尔海洋研究所。1960年进入中国科技大学力学系，1965年获中国科技大学近代力学系学士学位。1984年获麻省理工和伍兹霍尔海洋研究所博士学位。黄瑞新教授长期致力于海洋环流理论研究，主要研究方向为风生环流和热盐环流的理论和数值研究，及海洋环流与气候动力学的联系。由于他对通风温跃层、热盐环流等理论的杰出贡献，在2001年10月被伍兹霍尔海洋研究所授予W. Van Alan Clark, Jr.讲座教授荣誉。以第一作者或者合作者身份发表并被引用的文章达80多篇，多为《Journal of Physical Oceanography》、《Journal of Geophysical Research》、《Deep Sea Research》, 《Journal of Fluid Mechanics》,《Ocean Modeling》、《Tellus》等国际高质量刊物文章。授予W. Van Alan Clark, Jr.讲座教授荣誉。以第一作者或者合作者身份发表并被引用的文章达80多篇，多为《Journal of Physical Oceanography》、《Journal of Geophysical Research》、《Deep Sea Research》, 《Journal of Fluid Mechanics》,《Ocean Modeling》、《Tellus》等国际高质量刊物文章。
