Prof. Gary Hemmingreceived a Master of Science in geology from Tulane University in New Orleans and his PhD at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He then went to the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University as a research scientist. After 7 years at Lamont-Doherty, he took a faculty position at Queens College in New York City where he is now Full Professor. He continues as an Adjunct Research Scientist at Lamont-Doherty, and is a Visiting Associate Professor at SUNY Stony Brook. 

Prof. Hemming has 24 articles with over 900 citations in peer-reviewed journals, such as Science, Nature, PAGES News, Geochimica et Cosmochimica Actaand Earth and Planetary Sciences Letters. He also has two book chapters on his work developing the boron isotope paleo-pH proxy. He has reviewed over 150 articles for peer reviewed journals, and reviewed more than 50 proposals for the National Science Foundation and several international funding agencies.
