International Symposium
Asian Dust/Aerosol and its Impact on Global Climate Change
August 8-10, 2010
Fudan University
Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences
220 Handan Road, Shanghai, China

Symposium Objectives
Asian dust originates from the northwest of China, passes through the highly polluted Central and East China, mixes with the anthropogenic air pollutants, and results in significant impacts on regional air quality and the climate system. Its long-range transport over the Pacific Ocean can also affect oceanic primary production and potentially global climate change.
The objectives of this symposium are
1) To communicate to the wider scientific community the most recent results of research in this area;
2) To share expertise in Asian dust/aerosol and its impact on global climate change;
3) To bring together a diverse group of experts to broaden the interdisciplinary nature of all aspects of Asian dust/aerosol research.
The symposium will bridge existing knowledge leading to future research on Asian dust/aerosol and its impact on the climate system.
Scientific program
The symposium will have invited and contributed talks as well as poster exhibitions. The topics for the symposium include:
(1) The mixing and transformation of Asian dust/aerosol over China,
(2) The optical properties of Asian dust/aerosol and its impact on regional climate,
(3) The role of aerosols in haze formation,
(4) The long-range transport of Asian dust/aerosol and its impact on oceanic primary production.
Tour of EXPO 2010
A one-day tour of the World Expo 2010 site in Shanghai China is scheduled for Wednesday, 11 August. Information and registration for the tour will be available on-site at the symposium.
